A SHAMBA Night Fundraiser: A Journey to Perú, May 13, 2008

On Tuesday, May 13, 2008 over 150 people gathered in support of TFW and experienced "A Journey to Peru." Guests enjoyed the sights, sounds, and tastes of Peru as they mixed and mingled at the ultra chic Shamba Foundation space in Toronto's downtown core. This roof-top oasis, complete with wraparound terrace, was transformed into a lounge with silent auction treasures, a gathering space for speeches, music, and stories where guests enjoyed tasty Peruvian treats and beverages.

The evening was the 2nd annual fundraiser for TFW. Master of Ceremonies Beverly Thompson, co-host of CTV's Canada AM, provided both delight and insight as she guided guests throughout the evening. Beverly entertained with the perfect mix of humour, understanding, support and dedication all of which moved our guests to a further understanding and commitment to TFW.

Guests were greeted by Pedro Rey Daly, Consul General of Peru; Jackie Elton, Chair of the Board of Directors (TFW); Ralph Berninzon, Regional Director Armonizar (Peru); Karen Sparks Fundraising Chair and our venue host Inga Skaya of the Shamba Foundation.

The event was a huge success with over $48,000 raised for TFW and its programs helping children around the world and reaching $144,000 total with the donations matching of our sponsors and donators. Many thanks to our wonderful organizing committee, our sponsors: Scotiabank, Medicis, 3M Unitek, Kittling Ridge, Appleton Rum, Shamba Foundation and the Consul General of Peru for their commitment and support. It is through their tireless efforts that TFW can provide much needed treatment and support around the world.
