“Support for TFW Reaches New Heights at Swiss Event”
- September, 2007
In Switzerland there is place known as the Jungfraujoch described as the Top of Europe. It boasts the highest railway station in Europe at nearly 3500 metres/11,715 feet. This is the place to which 240 intrepid guests from all over the world gathered to celebrate the birthdays of Alex and Kati Dembitz. Guests waited in evening dress at the railway station in Grindelwald, and set off on a 90 minute train journey on a cog railway up the mountain. At each station they were serenaded with Swiss mountain pipe music.
Guests enjoyed the spectacular mountain vista, witnessed an incomparable sunset, viewed several ice sculptures and were treated to special performances of live music and dancing, and wonderful food and drink. One of the entertainers even flew in from Montreal – Michel Lauziere (www.michellauziere.com)
TFW’s President and Founder, Jackie Elton, introduced TFW and explained how children with cleft lip and palate around the world have had their lives transformed with surgery and rehabilitation. Donations were collected to support TFW's overseas work, and nearly $30,000 was raised from family and friends at the event – the highest amount ever raised by one event for TFW and in the highest place.
TFW wishes to thank Alex and Kati Dembitz and their friends and family for generously supporting TFW through their celebration. We were delighted to be part of this unique occasion.
