Pompan SaeYang, Thailand
Eleven year-old Pompan SaeYang, belongs to the Mong tribe and lives 45 kilometers from Chiangmai, in Thailand. She is the sixth child, from a family of 10 siblings. Her father earns only 4,000 Baht (about US$100) per month.
After several years of living with a cleft condition, Pompan’s father took her for treatment at a local hospital but he did not have enough money to pay for the operation. However Pompan was able to receive cleft repair surgery at the Nakorn Ping Hospital, which is a hospital linked to TFW’s partners in the region. Pompan underwent the surgery, and was then fitted with a surgical device to accelerate wound healing by the team’s prosthodontist.
Although regular speech therapy is still needed, Pompan’s father happily reported that she is now speaking with more confidence.
